TJ and I have decided that one of the things we are going to try and be more intentional about this year is having one-on-one time with each kid. So, this weekend we decided to have a date day. TJ took Mady out for a date and I took Trip for a date. Trip and I went to Lowes for a Be a Builder Workshop. Lowes has these free workshops for kids to come and build something they can take home with them. So, this weekend we got to build a game box. It's a box with a chalkboard top that can be use to play games on or keep score. And, it came with a die and 10-12 cards with different games on them. I was a little nervous taking Trip to do this because I am not a very handy person. But, I figured if it was geared toward a child, I should be able to keep up. I don't know which Trip was more excited about, building something or sitting on the riding mowers in the store! He did a really good job building. I would set the pieces up and he would hammer in the nails. I messed one side up, but it was an easy fix and the box turned out great! Trip was so proud of his creation. After the workshop, we went to get some ice cream. Trip insisted on bringing in a few game cards to play while we ate. And, then we ran to Blockbuster to pick up some movies in case we get the snow/ice they are predicting for this week. TJ took Mady bowling. They had a great time too. Mady was over the bowling after about 4 frames, but she did love the bowling shoes! There is a game arcade at the bowling alley too, so she and TJ played some games and then went out for ice cream as well. We all met back at home for lunch. I definitely think the dates were a fun idea and each child felt special. They are already planning the next outing where the boys will have some boy time and the girls will get some girl time! I took the camera with me, so TJ didn't get any pictures of Mady bowling. But, I did however get this hysterical one of her after baths last night. She stuck her toy phone against her ear, under her towel and walked around calling all those she loves! That girl makes me laugh.
