Trick or Treat Time!

Ok, so I am pretty sure between the four of us, we celebrated Halloween at least 4 times. It all started last week, when Mady's class had their Halloween parade and party. A few months ago, when I'd asked the kids what they wanted to be for Halloween, Mady had said a butterfly. For some reason, the day before her school party, she no longer wanted to be a butterfly and opted for her Ariel dress up costume instead. She looked adorable. TJ and I split the preschool party duties. I got to see the parade! All those sweet preschoolers showing off their costumes and singing Halloween songs. Then, TJ took over and joined Mady for her class party. Then, on Saturday, TJ and I got to get dressed up and go to our own adult Halloween party! I was so impressed by the costumes! We went as Jesse James and Kat Von D. And, we looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. Unfortunately, we did not win the contest. We were upstaged by some friends of ours, who not only dressed up like the cheerleaders from SNL, but also did a little dance! I've already told TJ that next year we have to up our game and come prepared with a performance. I think it's going to take some convincing to get TJ to agree. :-) On Monday, Trip got to dress up for school and have his own little parade. At his elementary school, they have the kids dress as storybook characters. Luckily for Trip, we found a book about dinosaurs, so his triceratops costume could be used for that too. There were some very clever storybook costumes too! Then, that night Trip and Mady got to trick or treat with two separate groups of friends through our neighborhood. This time, I was able to convince Mady to wear the butterfly costume I'd bought. The kids collected WAY too much candy! TJ and I have conceded to help them eat all that awful candy. HA! HA! We all had a lot of fun dressing up and getting candy!

In preparation for next year, I went to Target to buy costumes at half price the day after Halloween. I asked Trip and Mady what kind of costumes to look for. Trip said Mario or Star Wars and Mady said she wanted to be an angel. Hmmmm..... So, I lucked out and found a Darth Vader costume and a cute angel costume. When I brought them home and showed the kids, I was SHOCKED (NOT) to find out that Mady no longer wanted to be an angel. Who knows what she'll want to be next year...maybe something more compatible with her personality. :-) But, Trip was thrilled with his Darth Vader costume. Angel or no angel, darth vader or dino, I LOVE them both just they way they are!
