Today is January 2, 2012! NUTS! As we rang in the new year with the Guerards for our third annual NYE family celebration, I was struck by how much has changed since last year's celebration...so much that we had not even the slightest inkling about at the time. So, I wonder what is in store for us this year? God is showing me more and more that I am NOT in control. So, I will hand over the steering wheel of my life, with a little trepidation, but not much choice really (I mean let's be honest) and hang on tight for another wild ride!
"Speaking of which," (Mady's new favorite saying), the last few weeks have been quite a ride. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of having both kids (and TJ) home almost every day the last two weeks. Sure, there have been arguments, tears and threats to run away, but it's all the moments of joy and laughter that will rule in my memories. At the beginning of the Christmas break, I made a list of fun things to do with the kids while they were out of school and we did everything on the list, except one. We went to a bouncy/jump place, saw the new Chipmunks movie, made a Gingerbread house, visited TJ at work and had lunch with him, saw the Christmas lights display at Callaway Gardens, had a sibling sleepover and pajama day and most importantly PLAYED! We had visits from Kaki and Grandad, Aunt Betsy and the Guerard family (home from Cali for the holidays). We spent time with Nicholas and Nolan and Aunt Katie and Uncle Graham. Trip and TJ watched Star Wars together for the first time. We had cinnamon rolls at least three mornings this past week. And, even though I am looking forward to being back in a routine later this week, I am REALLY going to miss having everyone here together all day long! I know most of you are thinking this doesn't sound anything like something I would say, but it always makes me a little sad to come down from the Christmas high!

Again..."speaking of which"...Christmas morning was so much fun this year, such a high! Trip and Mady are at the best age for it. They woke up early, but not too early, 7 a.m.! They loved every present they got and played with everything. I think everyone's favorite gift was the Wii game system! Trip has been begging for one since our neighbors moved in a few houses down with one and he learned how to play Mario Cart. It amazes me how quickly boys can pick up this skill. I am getting such a kick out of sitting and listening to Trip and TJ discuss the games and how to do special moves and get extra points. I don't know who likes it more! And, Mady and I LOVE the dance games. Her favorite song on the Dance game is "Mickey" from the 80's, one of my FAVS. The Wii has really provided some fun family time as we play the games together. And, it was a great addition to our NYE celebration last night (see the picture above of the kids dancing). The adults had a dance off after the kids went to bed, stay tuned to youtube for a video of TJ and Thomas dancing! They rocked! The talent in our family is really quite impressive. I had no idea! :-)
So, as 2011 comes to an end and we look forward to 2012, I feel like I am getting onto a roller coaster, or maybe, in keeping with the activities of the last week, a Mario Cart race car! With my eyes blindfolded to what lies ahead, but with Jesus driving, there is nothing to fear! Happy New Year!
