Family Vacations

If you look up the word vacation, it is defined as an "intermission of stated employment, procedure or office; a period of intermission; rest; leisure."    When it comes to a family vacation, not one single part of this definition applies.  :-)  I guess maybe the first part, in that TJ doesn't have to report into his office, but it doesn't mean he can completely unplug from work.  And, there is definitely no rest or leisure, especially if you choose a big city like Boston for your vacation spot.  But, there is a lot of memory making fun!  We packed so much memory making into our 5 day trip to Boston that there is no way I could put it all into one blog post.  But, here are the highlights:

Duck Tour of the city and Charleston River:

All 3 kids had a chance to drive the boat around the river

Boston Tea Party Museum:

Traveled back in time and even got to throw fake tea into the water.  It was also at this museum that we got our quote of the trip from Mady, "I don't want to learn anything...I'm on vacation!"

Boston Red Sox game at Fenway park:

Enough said!

View from Bunker Hill Monument:

Trip, Mady and TJ climbed to the top!

Following the Freedom Trail with Betsy and Nic:

We had the best hosts and tour guides!

There are no pictures of my favorite part, but taking a water taxi to the airport was such a relaxing way to get there.  Which was especially nice since we ended up stuck at the airport in Boston for over 6 hours which put us in Atlanta at 3:50 AM the next morning!  It was annoying, but the kids made the best of it and didn't even play on their devices the whole time.  There was much mad-lib creativity and laughter going on under this tent/fort!

I can remember almost all the "vacations" my family took when I was a child and they bring me nothing but great memories.  Some might be funnier than others, but thinking back on those times always makes me smile.  I hope we are making the same kind of memories with our kids!  Thank you to Nic and Betsy to helping make this one memorable family vacation!
