Well we are finally back from our Florida vacation with the Kuehns. Wow, what a long drive! I really had no idea how far away Naples is. But, both kids did really well. Much better than I thought they would. Trip's medicine and DVD player worked together to keep him from getting car sick and keep him entertained and spaced out. And, Mady slept, screamed a little, watched her brother and ate her feet. They both even did well during our mid-trip hotel stays down and back.
Despite the record cold temperatures, we still managed to get to the beach two times and even swim in the pool at the house. This was Mady's first time for both. She loved the pool at first, but then got tired of it quickly. She loved the beach and had a few tastes of sand. Yummy! Trip made a friend, Tyler, at the beach. They were so cute building sand castles and knocking them down. You would of thought they'd known each other forever. It was really nice to spend so much time with TJ's family; I wish they all could've stayed as long as we did. Both of our kids slept great there. We love closets. Trip slept in TJ's parents huge closet in a big-boy rollaway bed and Mady slept in our big closet. On our way back home yesterday, we took a slight detour to visit our friends in Tampa. It was the perfect break and both kids passed out for the night once we loaded them back up. I wish I could say they were great kids the whole time, but Trip decided this would be a good time to really test mommy, so I am glad to be back home and hopefully back to our normal, somewhat disciplined routine.
I think my favorite part of the entire vacation actually took place today on the way back home. Poor, sleepy, little Mady was totally over being in the car and she was letting us all know it. So, Trip, being the great big brother that he is, just starting goofing around trying to make her laugh (no prompting from TJ and I) and, of course, it worked. He had her laughing so hard, you never would have known she'd just been screaming. Then, a little while later, when she got upset again, Trip joined TJ and I as we sang silly songs to calm her down. It just made me feel like we were such a family, working together to help each other out.
