Milestones

The last few weeks, Mady and Trip have both been doing some pretty cute things worth mentioning. I'll start with our little Madeline. Last night when she woke TJ and I up at 4:15 a.m. for the first time months (of course after we'd gotten home after 1 a.m. for the first time in years), she was still able to melt TJ's heart by saying "Da Da." However, when I went to see her for her second middle of the night party, I was not greeted quite so sweetly. I was lucky enough to get a crazy scream. Ahhh...the joys! She is also really into food. She is already over the pureed stuff and wants everything her parents and older brother are eating. The last few meals when I've been alternating between a fruit and a vegetable, every time I give her a spoonful of the vegetable, she then proceeds to cry the saddest little cry like she can't believe I would even think of putting that in her mouth. Her new favorite is mashed potatoes. I just hope she is a better eater than Trip, which will not be too hard to do, since all he eats is peanut butter. She is also really close to taking off and crawling. She gets up on all fours and kind of moves back and forth, like "here I go," but she's yet to get too far. Watch out Trip's toys!

Now for Trip, he is in that "but, why?" stage. So fun! But, he asks really great questions that get lots of laughs from TJ and I. For instance, the other night he ran out into a parking lot. Big no no! I told him that he could get hit by a car and get hurt or even worse be taken away forever (my gentle way of saying die). Big mistake Mommy. He then, of course, asked where he would be taken to. So, silly me, I said he'd go to heaven with God. He thought about that for a minute, and then asked "Can cars fly?" Because, of course, the car that hit him would be taking him to heaven. :-)

Then, one afternoon we were reading a book called the Tale of Three Trees, which is a story of these 3 trees and how they are turned into the manger Baby Jesus was placed in, the fishing boat from which Jesus calmed the storm, and the cross Jesus died on. Trip was hung up on why the woodcutters came to cut down the trees, and I explained that a lot of things were made from trees like the bed and dresser in his room. So, at least 3 days later, we were in the car, and Trip asked if he was made of a tree. Amazing.

My favorite was watching him at church this morning. He found an insert from the bulletin and asked if he could read it. So, I said sure. He then proceeded to hold it like me and pretend he was singing the song that was playing. He didn't know the song, but he moved his lips like he was singing. It was so precious! I love that little squirt.
