Lighting Up for Christmas

As seems to happen every year, most of our neighbors already have up all their Christmas lights and decorations by the time we return from Wisconsin. I don't why, but this always makes me feel rushed to catch up to everyone's Christmas spirit. :-) Trip and Mady love it! Trip's favorite is a blow up merry-go-round with Santa, an elf and Rudolph! He looks for it every year. This year, we decided to really knock their socks off and take them to a big Christmas light display! One of the gardens south of us creates a "fantasy in lights" that you can either drive through or take a trolley through during the Christmas season. So, we opted to do it the old fashioned way, and bundle up and take the trolley ride. It was well worth freezing our booties off just to experience the joy with Trip (and Mady). Before the ride, we looked around the Christmas village, which is mostly just expensive shopping. But, there was someone dressed as a gingerbread man. Their costume was so soft, Trip and Mady could not get enough of them. They followed the gingerbread man around, running up for hugs every 5 minutes or so. Then, it was time to bundle up and head out for the trolley ride. Trip could've cared less how cold he was; he was in such awe the entire hour-long ride! His expressions were priceless. I think his favorite part was singing the Christmas carols and yelling "Merry Christmas" as we passed other trolleys. Mady enjoyed it too, although once she finished her giant mug full of hot chocolate, she looked at TJ and said, "I need to get off here!" Mady is so laid back though, she sat back and chilled (literally) for the rest of the ride, reminding us every 10 minutes or so that she wanted to be done. I am so glad we took the time and braved the cold weather to create these memories with them.

They also created some other fun memories this past weekend. The kids' school hosted a Saturday with Santa on Saturday morning. The kids brought their friends, Turner and Parker and spent the morning with them. They got to meet Santa and tell him what they wanted for Christmas, make crafts, decorate and eat Christmas cookies and watch a movie. Mady apparently did not want to sit on Santa's lap, so we have a great picture of her and another woman sitting with Santa. Hysterical! They all had a great time; no one wanted to leave when the parents came back to get them. We had fun too while they were entertained. We went out to breakfast with our friends and celebrated TJ's birthday! Then we got to do a little Christmas shopping. It was a fun morning for everyone.
This is such a busy time of year, especially now that we have a birthday to celebrate every weekend in December, along with Christmas! But, it is so nice to slow down a little and focus on making memories as a family and watching our children light up! It all goes so quickly, I just want to be sure and enjoy it all. Plus, TJ even got our lights up outside, so I don't feel as far behind anymore. :-)

Oh, I also have to share a new quote from Trip. Out of the blue last week, Trip was playing downstairs and he looked up at me and said, "I think I'm ready to die now." I, of course, was shocked and asked him why he wanted to die now. And, he said, "because I want to go to heaven and meet the dinosaurs!" Gotta love it! Once I explained that he wouldn't be able to come back, he decided to stick around down here a while longer. Thank goodness! Those dinos can wait.
