Our Not so "Lazy" Summer

This Summer is flying by! I can't believe the last time I did a blog post was after our VBS. Since then, Mady has had her alone time with Kaki and Grandad. She had a wonderful time. I think her favorite part was the tea party she and Kaki had with my Aunt Nancy. Mady got to help make tea and cucumber sandwiches. She got to dress up, although my little tomboy had no interest in wearing the dress I packed for her, just the crown. While she was away, Trip and I had some great time together. We went to the natural history museum in Atlanta, Fernbank. Trip loved all the dinosaurs! And, there was a fun, kid-friendly exhibit, where he could play with all sorts of things and climb in a big treehouse. We also went to see CARS 2 in 3-D! Trip was so excited! He loved the movie, but it was little more intense than the original, so there were a few parts that brought him near tears. :-) Who knew a movie about cartoon cars could do that. :-) We also went swimming a lot in the afternoon, when Mady is usually napping, so that he could go down the water slide, which is his new-found favorite thing to do at the pool! After Mady's alone time, my parents switched houses with us, so that TJ and I could celebrate our anniversary. They watched the kids at our house and we got to enjoy some alone time and relax at their house. It is so quiet up there and with the pool and hot tub, we were even more relaxed! Then, my parents took Trip back up to their house since he got sick during his first alone time visit up there. He got to go to the dinosaur museum which was the main thing he had not had the chance to do the first time. He should be filled up on his dinosaur fix now! :-)

After all that house and child swapping, it was time for the first annual Garrison/Kuehn family vacation! My parents rented a beach house on Tybee Island and we supplied the grandkids, food and adult beverages! We all had a wonderful time! The house was amazing. Trip and Nicholas got to share a room, which they just loved. And, Mady got a room to herself with a full-size bed. There are advantages to being the only grandaughter on that side! We were right by the beach access, so we went everyday. We also had a hot tub on the roof, which provided a decent viewing of all the fireworks. The adult boys went to an Army museum, which they thoroughly enjoyed. And, the daddies took the big kids to the lighthouse too. The kids also got the chance to feed alligators while we waited to eat at a crazy beach restaurant. They thought that was so cool. The best part was going down to the beach on the evening of the 4th of July. We had gone down hoping to do sparklers, but it was too windy to light them. Instead, we got a wonderful surprise! The tide was pretty far out, and the water was full of dolphins! There must have been at least 20 of them, some jumping out of the water just a few feet from us. It was an amazing sight! I could've stayed there and watched all night. We have never traveled with my side of the family and it was such a joy to all be together and share memories. I hope we continue to do this every year! Thank you Mom and Dad for providing the house and making this trip happen. And, thank you Katie and Graham, for bringing your boys and putting up with sleepless nights to share this special time with us! I know we'll be talking about this trip for years to come!
