A Jungle Adventure

Last week, the kids and I went on a jungle adventure at our church's Vacation Bible School. We all had a wonderful time! The week and weekend leading up to VBS were completely nuts for me because I ended up helping much more than I had planned to, and there were so many last minute details that needed to be handled. But, it was all worth it and it turned out wonderfully! The church was transformed into a jungle for the entire week. We had over 200 kids, which is a record for us and used over 100 adult and youth volunteers to pull it all off! This was Trip's third year going, but his first year to be with the big kids and out of the preschool group. It was Mady's first time to be out of the volunteer's nursery and in the preschool program. Trip really soaked it up all week. He would come home each day and tell me about the bible story they'd learned about and could even apply it to his life! I think his favorite part was the big group opening and closing where they would see skits, sing songs and our Pastor would tell cheesy jokes. Trip remembered every joke and would tell them to us each night at dinner. Then, on the last day, he told Pastor a joke and Pastor used it in front of all the kids (and their parents) and gave Trip the credit. He LOVED that! Mady had a great time too. She loved singing and dancing to the songs. I'm guessing, but I think snack time was her favorite part. As part of my duties, I passed out little thank you candy-grams to the volunteers each morning. So, Trip and Mady (and our neighbors that came with us all week) would help me pass out the candy each morning. And, every afternoon, after VBS was over, Mady would check to see if there was any candy left over for she and her friends! Although, I was a little sad to see it end and to take down all the great decorations, I am really excited about this week and no major plans! It will be so nice to be able to take it easy each day and just enjoy being home with the kids. It hit me today as I was cleaning up after lunch that I won't get to have lunch with Trip every day anymore once school starts. SAD! That makes cleaning up his crazy messes a little easier. At least I'll still have Mady and her mess to clean. :-)
