As anyone close to me knows, I am a perfectionist, Type-A personality, hates to be late kind of person. So, you can imagine what a failure I feel like that it is now almost July and I have not posted my annual birthday posts for any of my three kids! That means I am over six months late for the boys and one month late for Mady's. Way to go me! So, in an effort to jump back on the blogging bandwagon, I'm going to do a 3 for 1 blog post to wish all 3 of my babies a happy birthday and a little description of what they are like now that they are 9, 7 and 4. So...let's begin with the one that first made me a mommy, TRIP:
Every time we celebrate another birthday for Trip, I take a heart-wrenching trip down memory lane and think back to how wonderfully our lives changed on December 12, 2005! We had no idea what we were doing and sometimes I feel so bad for Trip, as our first born, we tend to make all the mistakes on him. But, thankfully, he seems pretty resilient. :-) Trip is really the sweetest, most empathetic kid I've ever known. His propensity to relate to other people's feelings and put that first ahead of his own always blows me away. This is incredibly evident in the way he has attached and bonded with Eli. He is such a hard worker and always wants to make everyone happy. This year, he blew all of his other classmates out of the water with his insane reading and he was accepted into Enrichment, which was such a huge confidence booster for him. He loves to play video games maybe just a little bit more than read books. He has read the first Harry Potter book 8 times now, I think! Some of his other favorite things are Sprite, riding his bike to hang out with his friends, talking and watching sports with TJ, building with Legos, creating comic strips, cub scouts and TACOS! I really can't wait to see what the rest of this 9th year of his life brings. I'm so grateful to be called mom by this precious big guy!
Next, the one who is so much like me it's pretty scary, Mady:
Mady came into this world already holding her head straight and looking people in the eye. The girl has been able to work a room since she was a toddler and it's a skill she continues to sharpen daily. And, while she can get most people to do what she wants them to, she is not full of herself and always reaches out to those that are more shy or might otherwise be left out. We were so proud of how she befriended two new girls in her class this year and showed them around, and they've both become very special friends of Mady's. She loves playing with girls her age, but she also loves to hang with the big girls. Some of the other things Mady loves are dancing, crafting, playing Barbies, American Girl or Legos. She also loves to write short stories and has pretty much taken over the guest room with her arts and craft projects. Mady also got into Enrichment this year and is excited to start that in the Fall like her big brother. How is she 7?! Already?! It is a privilege to be her mom and corrected by her daily. :-)
And, finally, the one who challenges me as a mother each and every day, Eli:
I still feel like I am daily getting to know Eli more and more. Some days, we can see wide open into his heart and mind and get such a beautiful glimpse of the person God created him to be. He is by far the silliest person in our family and loves to be the center of attention. He loves to sing and dance and do anything his big brother (and sometimes sister) do. He loves super heroes, most days Batman is his favorite, but you never know when that might change. He also loves to play sports, build with Legos, play with army guys and football guys, and he is a genius at putting a puzzle together. Eli has a tender heart and does not like for those he cares about to be upset. And, he is incredibly independent and always wants to do things on his own. He is persistent and will work on it until he gets it right. His two favorite things to say are "Why?" and "I do it myself!" This Fall, Eli will start Pre-K at the same elementary school as Trip and Mady and he can't wait to go where they go! I am humbled to be a part of God's story in Eli's life and to get the chance to be his momma.
So, those are my 3 kids in a quick, blog-like way! Each so unique and special and precious to me! Happy Belated Birthday Trip, Mady and Eli!
