My sweet four year old took me on a date today. We went to see the new Disney movie, "The Princess and the Frog." It was so nice to go do something with just him...I didn't have to bring a diaper bag, diapers, a sippy cup...all I needed was Trip and some warm coats because it was freezing out today! We got some popcorn and some fruit punch and we were set. Trip sat next to me for the first half of the movie, enjoying his treats. And, then he sat in my lap for the rest. I loved it! I miss hanging out with just him alone, so it was a treat for me too. The movie was great, a little scary with the voodoo magic, but Trip didn't seem to get to scared. He said he didn't want to go when it was over. TJ and Mady had a fun afternoon at home together too. Doing things all together as a family of four is always a fun thing, but it is also nice to get some one-on-one time with them.
Trip has had some great quotes this weekend. First, on New Years Eve during our celebration with the Guerard family, Trip and Turner were playing. She had put on her princess costume and was telling Trip to bow down to her. He told her no and she asked why. Here was Trip's perfect answer: "Because we don't bow down to people. We only bow down to God." That's right! Woo Hoo! That was a proud mommy moment.
Then, this morning, we were going through the kids' toys, finding some old ones we could give away to make room for all the new ones they got for Christmas. Trip had a hard time at first, but he got better as we went along. At the end, he found his wallet he'd gotten for his birthday. We had put some fake credit cards in it for him to play with. He pulled one out and said, "Mommy, I want to go to a store with you and Mady and Daddy and buy some new toys with this card." Awesome! Not only has he already figured out that these "magic" cards are like money and can buy you things, he has obviously not gotten the point of this exercise. He still wants more toys! I laughed so hard!
