Take me out to the ballgame!

Today was Trip's first t-ball game. I use the word "game" loosely. But, if you asked any of those 4 year old boys what they did today, they would tell you they played a baseball game. This league has great rules for the first year t-ballers that makes it really fun and more about learning the basics. Each player gets to bat when their team is batting. Once you hit the ball, you just go to first and you stop...well, you're supposed to stop, but some little ones get carried away with the running. Then, the last player to bat gets to hit a home run. This is the one rule that Trip really heard and he was lucky enough to bat last once today, so he got a home run! The rules that Trip didn't really hear have to do with what to do when he is out on the field. He reminds me of myself the one year I played softball. He is in his own little world, playing with dirt, facing the wrong way, completing ignoring any balls that come his way. But, boy does he have fun when its time to bat and run those bases.

Mady also had a good time at the game. She joined in with Trip while they warmed up. Then, one of the basics the coach has to teach is helping the boys learn the names of the kids on their team. So, when he said, "now, who is Trip, everyone point to Trip," Mady walked over to Trip and said, "Right here!" She is so smart. :-) When Trip's team was fielding, she walked over to their bench and put a batting helmet on her head, backwards, but adorable nonetheless. I think we may have a tomboy in the making.
I can't believe our firstborn is old enough to play t-ball. Watching these sweet little ones gives us an hour of good belly laughs! TJ put it well, he said it is like watching "future all-stars."
