We had quite an adventurous weekend at Young Life family camp. Before we left for camp, TJ and I got to see Trip and Mady sing the bible verses they've been learning at CBS. For the first time ever, Trip stood up front, in front of all the other moms (and his dad), and sang the songs! It was such a joy to watch him. The best part was the air guitar he played for one of the songs. We might have a real rock star on our hands. Mady, stayed up front too, but she was busy helping Ms. Kerry keep all the music straight. Apparently, she is training to be the next music leader for CBS. As we all know, organization and being in charge runs in her genes.
After naps, we headed into Friday afternoon traffic in Atlanta...fun! The kids, as always, did so great in the car. Trip was so excited to see all of his friends at camp. He had so much fun! During the clubs, he would go up with his friends. He liked his taste of independence. Part of Young Life camp always involves a weekend-long skit. It's usually some kind of good guys vs. bad guys. The main characters met us as we entered into camp and told us we were coming into the "United States of Awesome!" Trip and Mady were not sure what to think of them. When we told Trip we were going to have to drive back by them to get to our cabin, he told TJ we were going to have to shoot them. Mady, had the opposite reaction. She told one of our friends that the two guys Trip wanted to shoot were pretty. Keep in mind they were wearing American flag muscle shirts and blue jean cut-off shorts...not pretty at all! Saturday was not a pretty day either. It started raining about 10 a.m. and didn't stop until the middle of the night. Not only was it raining, but it was pouring. It made it hard to do any of the fun things that camp had to offer. But, Trip and Mady were totally entertained in the game room, attempting to play pool and air hockey, and eating from the snack bar. That night, the kids and parents were separated for a little while, so the kids could do kids things and we could listen to the speaker. And, of course, the storm got really ugly outside and the electricity went out at camp. After some intense moments, we got everyone back to our cabin. We were able to use the light from TJ's computer and our cell phones to find PJs and get everyone to bed. The electricity came back on around midnight that night. What an adventure!
The next morning, we got up and barely made it in time to see our sweet nephew, Nolan, get baptized. All in all, it was quite a weekend and I am still recovering. I thought weekends were for recovering. Oh well! :-)
