Trip and Mady's last days of preschool are this coming Thursday! For the first time ever in my life as a parent, the end of the school year feels so bittersweet. I am usually so excited for the summer and the extra time with the kids with no real agendas other than the pool. This year, I am still looking forward to no big schedule and to the lazy days of summer. But, I am also so sad that my baby boy is no longer a preschooler! How did this happen? I find myself alternating between awe as I see him become more confident each day and sorrow that he is getting bigger each day and there is NO way to turn back the clock. The past few weeks as he has done all the end of the year activities for the last time at his preschool, I have been constantly reminded that Trip is officially a child, no longer a toddler, not even a preschooler, but a young, sweet, and of course, sometimes crazy boy! I think the school activity that showed this the most was last week's water day! Trip and Mady both got to wear their swimsuits to school and play in the water for an hour with their classmates. The extreme difference between Mady's class and Trip's in the way they played in the water was the perfect example of where they each are in their preschool time. Mady's class was so sweet and calm at their first water day, having so much fun in the water, but never squirting water at each other or running, or acting crazy. Then, I came out to Trip's class, their last water day and it was chaos. Water going everywhere! Screaming, yelling, splashing. Some kids loving it, but not sweet Trip. As you can see from the pix above, he stayed out of the craziness and spent most of his time with the bubbles, avoiding being squirted with water at all costs. It just reminded me of being in high school as a senior and breaking all the rules the last few weeks, not caring about getting in trouble. That's how these 5 year olds were acting at this last big activity as the "big" kids on campus before they head off to kindergarten. Not a care in the world, except maybe to avoid getting water in their eyes.
Mady also got to celebrate her birthday early with her class. She loved wearing the birthday girl crown and continues to wear it every day. She brought purple cupcakes to share and loved being the center of attention. So, one birthday celebration down, and the big one to come! I cannot believe I am the mother of a 3 year old and a 5 year old! Where does the time go?
