For the last two weeks, our entire family has been suffering from what I first thought was just allergies. Now that both kids and I have been to the doctor, I now know that they both had double ear infections and I had a sinus infections. TJ (as usual) has not made a trip to the doctor, but is fighting his cold/infection on his own. :-) The kids and I have all been on antibiotics and Trip and I just finished our prescriptions over the weekend. Mady should be done in a few more days! Then, they both have to go back and get checked again to make sure the infections are gone. I am so sick of being sick! I can't wait for us all to be completely better! It is especially no fun being sick in the Springtime. But, Trip and Mady are such troopers. They have been great patients. While we've been fighting our infections, we've still had some fun times to share. Last Tuesday, Trip and Mady had their Spring program. They were adorable! They both sang their precious hearts out to songs like, Jesus Loves the Little Children, You are my Sunshine, Take me out to the Ballgame, and finished up their big night with I'm Proud to be an American by Lee Greenwood! I was so proud of both of them! Of course, we forgot to remove the gum from Trip's mouth before we left him with his teachers, so he half sang, half chewed the entire performance. And, Mady, who cried through her performance at Bible Study earlier this Spring, stood tall and sang almost the entire time. She did lose her concentration a little when the kids singing behind her started jumping around on the stage. :-) I have to admit that every time Trip makes it through a performance without any major breakdowns, I am shocked, especially when I remember back to the terribly shy toddler he used to be. He continues to amaze me as he steps out of his shell more each day and becomes increasingly confident in facing all these new situations. He amazed me again on Friday when we went to his kindergarten assessment. It's not a big test or anything, but we went to the Elementary school he will be attending and he and four other upcoming kindergartners went with a kindergarten teacher to talk about colors, letters, shapes, etc... He was so excited, not scared at all! In fact, of the 5 kids in his group, he was the most outspoken and least shy or apprehensive of all. Mady and I got a tour of the school with the other parents while the kids were being assessed. Trip said it was SO fun! I can already tell who is going to have the bigger problem with this transition to real school...ME!!!! But, I am so glad and relieved that he is so excited about the whole thing! I think if he was as scared and worried as me, he'd never leave the house and stay here with me, completely uneducated. :-) Trip continued surprising me on Saturday. We joined some friends at a local Mexican restaurant that has karaoke. It was hysterical! Mostly rednecks singing country songs I'd never heard, but it was great people watching. And, the best part was Trip got up to sing! I could not believe it! He sang one of the songs from his Spring program..."Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. It was the perfect choice for his audience! They loved it! And, we could not have been more proud of our little performer!
We also enjoyed some great family time this weekend as we celebrated Mother's Day! I got an early start on my celebrations on Saturday. TJ let me sleep in and he and the kids went to Dunkin Donuts and brought home munchkins and coffee! My favorite! Then, after we all ate breakfast together and opened cards and gifts, he and the kids cleaned out the minivan! Just what I wanted! Trip had a game on Saturday and he is just getting really good at baseball and he has the best time! On Sunday, we continued with the Mother' s Day celebration and drove up to my parents house. We drove past some of the destruction caused by the tornadoes a few weeks ago and were amazed by the path of brokenness left by the storms. It was also a reminder of just how blessed we are. We had a wonderful time playing outside, hiking around in the woods and hanging out with Kaki and Grandad! It was a nice, relaxing way to end the weekend! I feel so blessed that God has given me such a beautiful and amazing family! Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in my life!
