This weekend my parents came down to stay with us and celebrate Easter. We all had such a wonderful time! Trip and Mady were both precious on Easter morning. The Easter bunny left Trip a note telling him to help Mady find her pink and purple eggs. We filled a few eggs with things like cheerios for her and hid them behind things on the floor. Trip was such a sweet big brother. He was more into helping Mady find her eggs than finding his own. She loved crawling around on her belly and getting her eggs. She would just sit and shake them, loving the sound they made and having no idea there were treats inside. Trip, on the other hand, wanted to open each one when he found them to see what was inside. I don't know which he was more excited for, the ones with M&Ms or the jelly beans. He also had to open Mady's for her to see what she got inside her eggs. I think he was secretly hoping there was candy in hers too, so he could eat it. Here's my prediction for next year: Mady will go nuts trying to find as many eggs as fast as she can and Trip will find one and be so excited by the treats inside, that there won't be any eggs left to find because Mady will have found them all while he eats the candy in the first one he finds. Check back next year to see if I'm right.
Trip had some great Easter quotes and questions: first, a few nights ago, after dinner had not gone according to plan and TJ and I were scrambling to get them fed and to bed on time, Trip dropped this bomb of a question on us, "Why did Jesus die on the cross?" Such an easy question to answer, especially while you are running around making dinner and the baby is screaming because she thinks she is starving. Then, as we were heading out the door for Easter service on Sunday morning, Trip found this little cross he'd made at school and then brought it out with him. He told TJ that maybe he would die on this cross. WHAT! So, we had to clear that one up once we got to church. Finally, at church, we took communion, which Trip is not usually around for because he is usually in the nursery. So, after we returned to our seats he asked, "What was that shiny thing that man gave you to eat (referring to the disk of bread, which is apparently shiny) and what did you drink? So, TJ explained that it was bread and wine, hoping that would answer the question, but no, then Trip asked, why did you get that? We told him we'd explain when we got home, and luckily he forgot all about it. I'm sure it will come up again soon though, probably when he is avoiding going to bed this week. Hopefully, we'll be able to explain in a way that makes sense to a curious 3 year old. It really is great that he is asking these questions, I just hope we answer them well!
