What a wonderful, relaxing weekend! Thank you to our friends, the Guerards, for inviting us to spend the weekend with their family at the beach. TJ and I drove down with the kids on Friday morning. The drive took about 6 hours, but they were great! It's amazing what a little sugar and some movies can do to make the drive bearable. And, they both took a little nap halfway through. When we got to the house, Turner, the daughter that is Trip's age was just getting up from her nap, so she and Trip had a good time talking about how much fun they were going to have together. Once, Parker, the son that is Mady's age got up, we all headed over to the beach for an hour or so. The beach was perfect because it was low tide and there was a long sand bar that the kids could walk around and play on. TJ buried Mady in the sand and she loved it. Trip really loved the ocean. He loved that he could walk for so long without the water getting too deep. The best part was that Alison (the mom) and I were able to just sit on the beach and watch the dads play with the older kids. She and I were sort of in charge of the babies and at one point, Parker's face was covered in sand because we gave up trying to stop him from eating it and he was crawling away from us and Mady was a good 30 yards from me wandering around. Older couples kept walking by and looking for the parents of these dirty, wandering babies. I'm sure they thought we were doing a great job! :-)
We taught Alison and Thomas (the dad) how to play Sequence after the kids went to bed. It was boys against girls and Alison and I won both times. After the second loss, the boys didn't want to play anymore. Sore losers! Trip and Mady didn't sleep well in the new house the first night, but they were still in a good mood in the morning. We went back to the beach and played some more. This time Mady decided to try and eat as many shells as she could find. Fun game! And, Trip and Turner liked having the parents build sand castles so they could knock them down. After naps, we went to this great playground on the island. It was so hot though, so we didn't stay long. When we got home, we dressed all the kids up in their college football gear and had a tailgate dinner on the porch. Thomas went to University of Florida, so his kids have on Gator outfits and our kids had their UGA gear on. I think we'll have to stay away from this family on the UGA vs. UF weekend! We put the little ones to bed early and put a movie on for Trip and Turner, so we could all watch the UGA vs. South Carolina game. It was a great, nail-biter of a game and the Dawgs came out on top! It was extra nice to win, since we were in South Carolina.
We left Sunday after breakfast and the kids did great on the way home too. I wish we could've stayed a little longer because it was really so relaxing. Even in a house with 4 children under the age of four, we had a blast. The kids all got along really well and Alison and Thomas are just such a fun and sweet couple. Unfortunately, when we got home Trip and Mady started showing signs of something more than the runny nose they'd been suffering from the past week. Both had fevers and Trip said his ear hurt. They went to the doctor today and it's just a virus, so hopefully everyone will be better in the next few days and hopefully we didn't get the other kids sick.
The other big development over the weekend was that Trip learned to pee standing up! He got it right away. We are so proud and it makes potty time a lot easier. He is getting to be such a big boy!
