The Dinosaur and Super Girl...aka the Butterfly had a wonderful week full of Halloween fun! The week of spooky, scary fun started with Mady's music class. Once again, in hopes of a field trip to the farm with Trip's class, Mady went to the Monday music class. With three different costume options available to her, Mady chose her Super Girl costume. She looked fabulous and brought all the drama with her to music class. In honor of Halloween, the teacher used some new music, Halloween music, and Super Girl was not a fan...and she made sure everyone in class knew it! Most of this drama does not phase me, from one drama queen to another, I can spot a faker when I see one. But, Mady definitely was not a fan of the change in songs. Oh well, onto the next celebration. On Tuesday, Mady's class at school got to visit a pumpkin patch. Well, this is what they call it, but in actuality, it's a room in the school filled with little pumpkins and each child gets to pick one. This is what they do for the kids that are too little to go on a field trip. However, this year, Trip's class got to visit this makeshift pumpkin patch too, as his field trip was cancelled once again for bad weather. Apparently, there were tornado watches in affect on Wednesday, but I never saw anything worse than rain near us. I think we would've been fine to go on to the farm, a little wind and rain never hurt anyone, but what do I know. :-) Thursday was the big day of Halloween fun at school. Both Trip and Mady got to dress up for their Halloween parade and sing-a-long, followed by parties with their classes. This time, Mady chose to be a butterfly and Trip got to be a dinosaur. He really got into character. Roaring as he entered his classroom, trying to scare his teachers and classmates. He makes a great dinosaur, which comes as no surprise to me, as he pretends to be one every day, just without the costume. It was so fun to see them both in the parade and to watch them sing songs with their classmates. They were precious! Mady was so excited to see all these people in one room, she kept wanting to go over and say hi to anyone and everyone. And, Trip, for the first time, really participated and had fun, not worrying about what anyone thought of him. It was great! Then, Trip's party started right after the sing-a-long, while Mady went back to her class for an hour before her party started. This is the first time that Trip has had an all morning party and I was not expecting it, so I must say I was a little bummed to find out I'd be spending all of my "kid-free" morning at school. But, it was well worth it. Trip's class is so fun and they played games like musical chairs and got Halloween tattoos and had lots of yummy treats. The best one was a sugar donut that was made to look like an eye! I left Trip's party once Mady's started. A party for two year olds is much different than a party for 4 year olds. Mady's party pretty much just consisted of a big, fun snack. The best treat on her plate was an oreo cookie with chinese noodles stuck out on the sides to make it look like a spider. After they all finished eating, her teacher carved a pumpkin and let them all stick their hands in and pull out the yucky seeds. They were so adorable. Some, like Mady, just stuck their hands right in, while others were much more unsure. Her party ended a little early, so we went back to Trip's. His had finished and most of the kids had gone home. But, the ones that were left, were going out to the playground and Trip did not want to miss his playground time. So, Mady and I joined Trip and the rest of his class on the playground. Mady just loved getting to play on the big kids playground instead of the little one her class usually goes too. There were about 6 swings and Mady wanted to swing on each one. So, she went from swing to swing, while Trip played "Super Dogs" with his classmates. He tells me about playing this game everyday on the playground, so I was looking forward to seeing it in action. But, it really makes no sense to me. From my perspective, it looks like all they do is run around the playground chasing each other, but never actually catching each other. Then, they stop and start all over again. Whatever! I'm sure it somehow makes sense to them. It was a great morning of Halloween fun! The day ended with a date night for TJ and I and some fun friend time for our kids at Parker and Turner's house. After CBS on Friday and a soccer game on Saturday morning, our kids were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Pitty! She flew in on Saturday afternoon, and I took Trip to surprise her at the airport. He was so excited to go and was very quiet each time I spoke to her on the phone, so she wouldn't know he was in the car with me. Pitty was a huge help on Saturday, playing and entertaining the little ones while Mommy and Daddy cheered on the Georgia Bulldogs, only to see them lose in overtime. Oh well! Now, for the big day, the real Halloween! Trip and Mady were both so excited to go out and get candy. They asked all day when was it time to go. So, we ate an early dinner, got everyone dressed up and called Aunt Betsy on Skype, so she could see the kids in their costumes. And, FINALLY, it was time to begin the fun. This is the first year that Mady really got it, and boy did she ever. Trip was faster than she was and made it to most of the doors before Mady did, but she made sure to let the people know she was on her way, by announcing something like, "I'm coming," or "Here I am." By the end of the night, she was directing the show at each house, telling the home owners to put the candy they'd picked out for her back in their baskets, so she could do it herself. Seriously! And, no one seemed to mind one bit. I don't know how she does it. The kids had tons of candy by the end of the night. We made a quick stop at my friend, Libby's, house to wish her a happy birthday and celebrate with some friends. It was a great night. Mady asked me today if she could dress up again this week; she's sad it's all over, but enjoying the candy (as we all are)! We enjoyed the rest of our time with Pitty...shopping, eating out and lots of playing! Both kids were so sad to see her go this morning. We are already counting down the days until we go to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving. And, so, that is the story of the Dinosaur, Super Girl and the Butterfly. THE END!
