Tears and Laughter

Today, I've gone from laughing my head off at silly Mady to crying at my big boy! This morning, Mady and I were at Target and we had some time to kill, so we took a detour by the toy section. Mady LOVES to look at all the baby dolls and make them sing or cry or whatever strange thing they do. As we were passing through this aisle, Mady saw a baby doll just like her doll, "Pink." Then, she saw another doll that looked just like "Pink" except that she was African-American. So, Mady goes, "There is Pink and there is Chocolate Pink!" The funnier part of this story, which I'm sure my mom remembers well, is that when I was about Mady's age, I did the same thing...called an African-American person chocolate. Only I did it to a large, African-American man as he passed my mom and I at the grocery store. I'm pretty sure I said it much louder than Mady too. Interesting how history sometimes repeats itself! She also likes to look at the princess stuff. We found an Ariel barbie doll, which seems to be her favorite princess. I showed it to Mady, she grabbed it, and at the top of her lungs says (screams), "ARIEL, YOU ARE ON MY PANTIES!!!!" If only she could actually stop peeing and pooping in her pants long enough to wear the panties. :-)

Then, our new neighbors invited Trip and Mady over to play this afternoon. Mady decided to take a late, long nap, but Trip didn't nap, so he wanted to go on over. They are only 2 houses down, so I was just going to walk him over and come right back to wait for Mady to wake up. Well, Trip told me that he could go by himself! WHAT?! No, that's not right, you are supposed to be shy and NEED me still. So, he gave me a kiss and a hug and ran over to their house to play! Something inside me says this is just the beginning of his independence as we head toward the big K!!!

I guess everyday needs a little variety...laughter, tears and a little rain!
