Tis the Season

We had such yucky weather yesterday, that I decided to go ahead and break out the gingerbread house and make it with the kids. This year, for a little variety, I bought a gingerbread train. This seemed like a neat idea, since we have the train tracks behind our house, until I pulled it out of the box. I started trying to break the "pre-cut" pieces, but they were not breaking where they were "pre-cut." So, before we even got the frame together, I was gluing pieces with icing. Then, once I got the frame put together, I sat the kids at the island to begin the decorating. I don't know if it's my poor skills or a poorly made train, but the train leans, which makes for an interesting looking work of art. This was Trip's second year doing this, so he sort of gets the idea of eating some, but using most to decorate. Mady, on the other hand, did not like this! She pretty much cried the entire time, because all she wanted to do was eat the candy. I wouldn't have minded so much, except that the candy was tiny, hard candy, choking hazards for her. So, I let them each have some icing and a few pieces of supervised candy. That was not enough for Mady and she let me know about it. In fact, every time she sees the train on the counter, she starts crying, "Candy!" I think this might be our last year for this tradition, at least for a little while.
Trip had a great quote last night. I was reading a Christmas book to Mady and Trip came in the room and asked, "Where is Jesus right now?" I asked him what he thought and he said "in heaven, with God." I told him he was right and he asked if God was watching over him right now and I said yes. So, then, Trip looks up to the ceiling and says "Watch this God!" And, then takes off running as fast as he can. I couldn't help but laugh. After his race, I asked him what he thought God said about that, and he said, "God said COOOOL!" I agree.
